About Us
The Capital City African American Cultural Association, Inc. (CCAACA) was established and founded by Reverend, Doctor Michael C. Murphy in 1999. It was birth out of the need and concern of promoting African American Art and Culture.
At present, there are no consistent African American arts and cultural initiatives nor organizational leadership, museums or institutes within the Mid-Michigan area, which displays and exhibits African American art and culture. Therefore, the CCAACA was formed to meet these needs and challenges.
The African American presence in Mid-Michigan is significant. It is our desire to educate our city of this disparity by providing the following:
- Seminars, workshops, and other related educational opportunities
- Coordinate African American, African and Caribbean arts and cultural events.
- Organize and promote an annual summer festival in downtown Lansing
- Coordinate African American History Month activities
- Coordinate events with other organizations
- Honor community leaders as Grand Marshals
