  • Vera Riley Bio

Webster's dictionary describes passion as any powerful or compelling feeling or emotion. If passion had a human voice, it would resonate through the vocal chords of Vera Riley. Vera has been blessed with a rare musical gift and ability to connect with all types of audiences.

Award-winning gospel artist Vickie Winans says that from the moment Vera opens her mouth, you get "goose bumps" and the hairs on your neck are raised. Vera's love for music began at an early age. Her mother taught music and introduced Vera to various music styles, including classical, jazz, the standards, and gospel. Those different styles of music would help shape Vera as a singer and would later motivate her to pursue singing professionally.

During her senior year in high school, she traveled to Chicago to compete in the NAACP Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics. She competed against hundreds of youth from across the country in the contemporary vocal category. She sang a rendition of Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child". Vera conveyed the song in such a manner that the judging panel which included Motown legends Martha Reeves and Claudette Robinson were literally left in tears. Vera would go on to win the competition.

Vera graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Journalism and worked as a television news producer in Lansing, Michigan and New Orleans, Louisiana all the while continuing her musical aspirations. In 2005 she auditioned and landed a leading role in the gospel musical stage play "When Love Goes Bad". She traveled across the country with the production for over a year receiving good reviews for her role as Jackie McClain, a drug addict that would bring a broken family back together.

In recent years Vera has been fortunate to share the stage as an opening act for gospel artists Vickie Winans, Micah Stampley, Rizen, and Beverly Crawford just to name a few. She can also be heard singing background on Vickie Winans latest CD.

Vera has released her maxi-single entitled "Simply Vera". The CD consist of three songs written by Vera and a rendition of Danibelle Hall's "Love Made Me Do It". The project was produced by Tyreece Guyton, minister of Music of Marvin Sapp's Lighthouse Full Life Center Church.
